Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Lewis Dobbin faced off against one another for their respective loan clubs on Saturday, as West Bromwich Albion drew 1-1 away at Preston North End. Both players started the game at Deepdale, which saw the Baggies take the lead in the opening period through Karlan Ahearne-Grant, before Emil Riis Jakobsen equalised 10 minutes after the interval. Dobbin was withdrawn after 68 minutes for the visiting side, while Kesler-Hayden completed the full 90 for North End. In the Premier League, Ćlex Moreno came off the bench for the final 13 minutes of Nottingham Forestās 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, while in League Two, Filip Marschall played 90 minutes in goal for Crewe Alexandra, who were held to a 1-1 draw on the road at Carlisle United. Across Europe, Enzo Barrenechea started and played 84 minutes for Valencia as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Mallorca in La Liga on Saturday, while Samuel Iling-Jr was an unused substitute for Bologna, who won 3-0 in Serie A over Venezia. Sunday saw another three on-loan Villans in action. Finley Munroe picked up an assist and 69 minutes in Real Uniónās 3-1 defeat to Lugo, setting up Sergio Benitoās opener 24 minutes in, in a game which also saw James Wright complete 90 minutes in goal for Txuri-beltz. And overnight in Brazil, Philippe Coutinho started and played 70 minutes for Vasco da Gama, who drew 2-2 against AtlĆ©tico Goianiense, while Leander Dendoncker was an unused substitute for Anderlecht in Sunday afternoon's goalless draw away at Oud-Heverlee Leuven.Ā
Chelseaās Enzo FernĆ”ndez hits form, Newcastle have lost their shooting boots and Brighton rue a chance missed Late-2024 Liverpool are reminiscent of the late-2019 team that eventually won the clubās first league title in 30 years. Back then, a 3-1 home win against Manchester City put Jürgen Kloppās side eight points above second place, and nine above City. In 2024, they are nine points above second and 11 above City ā with, we hope, no pandemic to interrupt the season. There are eight players from that squad still at Liverpool, and if the football is more measured under Arne Slot, Sundayās potential knockout blow was achieved in the heavy-metal fashion of a Klopp team. āI knew Jürgen left the team in a very good place,ā said the diplomatic Dutchman afterwards.
