Brentford head coach Thomas Frank says a mid-table finish for Brentford would be "amazing" after losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
FixturesBrentford Vs. Aston Villa - Sat, Mar 8th 2025, 17:30 Axel Disasi lauded a “top result” on the road, as Aston Villa recorded a 1-0 triumph over Brentford on Saturday evening. Ollie Watkins’ second-half strike sealed all three points for Unai Emery’s men at the Gtech Community Stadium, as Villa made it three wins in a row in all competitions. And the defender, who was awarded the Sky Sports Player of the Match award, praised the character of the side, after a midweek Champions League win over Club Brugge. He said: “After each game in the Champions League, it’s hard to win, but I think today we deserve these three points, because I think in the first half we played very well. “At the beginning of the second half, we scored, and then I think we saw the character of the team. “I think in the Premier League, we need more consistency. After the game we lost at Palace, we were hungry, and we wanted to correct it. “I think the game today is the perfect answer, because everyone was fighting for the team, for the clean sheet, for the three points, and I think at the end we deserved this win. “We were strong, we were working for a clean sheet, and we got it, so it’s a top result for today.” Speaking on his personal performance, the Frenchman remained humble, before admitting how much he is enjoying his time as a Villan. He hopes he and his teammates can continue competing, heading into Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Club Brugge. “I just try to do my best, to help the team,” Disasi continued. “I came here for that – to play and to enjoy – and I am very happy how it is going in Villa. “Everything is top, I have a lot of confidence, and I feel good, so I’m happy. “I think it’s still nine games to go, so we take it one game by one. “We know we have to be higher in the league, and it will help with this kind of performance. “We just have to stay focused. Now, we have another game on Wednesday, and I hope this kind of victory will build confidence in the team and we will keep going in this way.”
Arsenal have all but booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals after thrashing PSV 7-1 in Eindhoven but Liverpool and Aston Villa are also chasing lucrative financial bonuses as they bid to see off Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge, respectively
Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery praises his side's "fantastic" defence as they beat Brentford 1-0 to boost their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
The Premier League’s middle is where the juice remaining in the season is likely to be squeezed from. On Saturday night the Gtech was a grindhouse, two teams with Europe on their mind, scratching and scraping at each other. For Unai Emery, playing Champions League football while aiming to return to the top five resembles building an aeroplane in mid-flight. To compete for the top five and maintain the dream state that playing in the competition has given fans and staff alike, Villa must improve their away form. Having failed to win any of their games following Champions League away trips, Ollie Watkins’ goal was vital for the domestic challenge ahead. Continue reading...
